Protection of Vulnerable Groups - Vetting & Barring Scheme - Scotland

This session is provided by CRBS to support the Scottish Government in its work to raise awareness of the vetting and barring scheme (PVG scheme) to be introduced through the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

The Scottish Government is currently in the process of implementing a new and robust vetting and barring scheme (PVG scheme) for people who work with vulnerable groups to join.

The PVG scheme will ensure that those who have regular contact with children and protected adults through the work place do not have a history of harmful behaviour.  It will deliver a fair and consistent system that will be quick and easy for people to use and end the need for multiple, written disclosure applications.

A date for the scheme to go live is still to be determined and will be announced well in advance to allow organisations and groups adequate time to prepare.  In the meantime, the Scottish Government's implementation activities are ongoing, in partnership with a range of stakeholders.  This includes the development of a comprehensive package of training and guidance that will be available in the run up to go live.

To help people to understand the PVG scheme and how it will differ to the current disclosure system, CRBS, in partnership with the Scottish Government is running a series of information events which are likely to be of interest to all those who work with children and protected adults.

For more information on the PVG scheme, including frequently asked questions, go to http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/People/Young-People/children-families/pvglegislation
