Young Aberdeenshire Volunteer Award (5-15 years)
The Young Aberdeenshire Volunteer Award supports the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence through the development of two key capacities - responsible citizens and effective contributors

responsible citizens with respect for others, commitment to participate, responsibility in political, economic, social and cultural life and able to develop knowledge and understanding of the world and Scotland’s place in it, understand different beliefs and cultures, make informed choices and decisions, evaluate environmental, scientific and technological issues, develop informed, ethical views of complex issues

effective contributors with an enterprising attitude, resilience and self-reliance and able to communicate in different ways and in different settings, work in partnership and in terms, take the initiative and lead, create and develop and solve problems You define what activities will qualify for inclusion in the Award, an example would be:

You can make a difference volunteering

A volunteer is someone who freely offers to do something

A simple log allows pupils to record the time they spend on the activity.

The volunteering timesheet is submitted to the Volunteer Centre at Inverurie, who will administer the Young Aberdeenshire Volunteer Award on behalf of the school, after it has been verified by a member of the teaching staff. The role of school staff is to encourage pupils to participate.
When a pupil meets the criteria for an award the young person will receive a certificate.  This can be sent direct to the school and presented to the young person for example at school assembly.  At school the award will be specific to the year the young person is in (i.e. P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, S1, S2 and S3).  If a young person has volunteering time achieved but has yet to reach the amount that would qualify for a certificate this can be carried forward to the next school year towards the certificate for that year.
