events page to find something suitable.

Can I volunteer while on benefits?
Usually
you can, but you need to let your benefits advisor know in advance. they will let you know about any restrictions you need
to be aware of.

Will volunteering cost me anything?

not as most organisations pay your out of pocket expenses e.g. to cover travel costs. Check this out with the organisation
before you start volunteering.

Although you are not being paid, it definitely does matter if you do not volunteer when you are expected to. Most
organisations can be flexible - but please let them know in plenty of time if you can't volunteer as agreed.

What is a disclosure?
Some organisations have to make sure that their volunteers are suitable for working with children and other
vulnerable people. The organisation will let you know if a disclosure check is required for the opportunity you have chosen
and the process for getting one. For more details go to the Disclosure Scotland website

What if it doesn't work out?
Organisations
rely on their volunteers to do their work, but if things are not working out as you expected then tell your supervisor and
see if any changes can be made. If not then it may be best for you and the organisation if you stop volunteering there and
try somewhere else.
